| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Charles Allan "Lanny" Lutz of Los | ||||||
| 4 | Angeles, California, who passed away on January 5th, 2021 at | ||||||
| 5 | the age of 79; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was born to Ruth Flarida Lutz and | ||||||
| 7 | Allan Barr Lutz in Washington D.C. on January 1, 1942; for a | ||||||
| 8 | short time after the war, the family lived in Birmingham, | ||||||
| 9 | Michigan; they ultimately settled in Darien, Connecticut; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was a talented high school athlete; he | ||||||
| 11 | won multiple sailing races on Long Island Sound; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, In 1964, Lanny Lutz earned a bachelor's degree in | ||||||
| 13 | English from Yale University; he pursued his passion for | ||||||
| 14 | acting in Yale's theater program; all the while, he also won | ||||||
| 15 | awards for his piano playing skills; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz's fluency and interest in the French | ||||||
| 17 | language led him to take a yearlong leave of absence from Yale; | ||||||
| 18 | during a subsequent overseas trip to France, he met Katia | ||||||
| 19 | Brillie; the two were married in Paris; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, After Lanny Lutz moved to New York City in 1967, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | his daughter, Natalie Cebčle, was born; he also dedicated | ||||||
| 2 | himself to full-time acting; soon, the family relocated to | ||||||
| 3 | London so that Lanny could study at the acclaimed Royal | ||||||
| 4 | Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA); and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz earned an Honours Diploma from RADA | ||||||
| 6 | and was bestowed with the Bancroft Gold Medal; one of his | ||||||
| 7 | memorable performances included the title role in Tartuffe; he | ||||||
| 8 | even earned praise from the Canadian actress and writer | ||||||
| 9 | Alexandra Sellers; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In 1971, after graduation from RADA, Lanny Lutz | ||||||
| 11 | lived in New York City and Los Angeles; his second-to-last | ||||||
| 12 | destination was in the Chicago area, specifically Oak Park, | ||||||
| 13 | which he called home for more than 20 years; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was instrumental in the development of | ||||||
| 15 | a thriving theater scene in Oak Park; he founded the | ||||||
| 16 | Black-White Dialogue with Gerald Clay in 1996 and was a member | ||||||
| 17 | of the Oak Park Festival Theater's Board of Directors; in his | ||||||
| 18 | capacity with the latter organization, he played the lead role | ||||||
| 19 | in All My Sons in 2005; one year later, he reprised his role | ||||||
| 20 | from Tartuffe; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz founded a contractor's reference | ||||||
| 22 | service entitled Lanny's List; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was a member of the Actors' Equity | ||||||
| 2 | Association and the Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of | ||||||
| 3 | Television and Radio Artists; he was briefly featured in the | ||||||
| 4 | movie, Batman: the Dark Knight; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was also a wine connoisseur and an | ||||||
| 6 | 18-wheeler truck driver; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was preceded in death by his parents, | ||||||
| 8 | Ruth and Allan Lutz; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz is survived by his daughter, Natalie | ||||||
| 10 | Lutz; his ex-wife, Katia Lutz; his grandchildren, Loic | ||||||
| 11 | Tatischeff and Magalie Tatischeff; his sister, Carolyn Gibson; | ||||||
| 12 | his nephew, Ian Gibson; his niece, Elizabeth (Liz) Gibson; and | ||||||
| 13 | his dear friend from Oak Park, Janet Bohler; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 16 | Charles Allan "Lanny" Lutz and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
| 17 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
| 18 | it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Lanny Lutz as an expression of our | ||||||
