| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of David Martin Nolan of Danville, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on June 1, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, David Nolan was born to Joseph and Grace (Calvin) | ||||||
| 6 | Nolan in Warren, Ohio on May 4, 1945; at age 12, he contracted | ||||||
| 7 | polio; at age 16, he underwent a spinal fusion to help support | ||||||
| 8 | his spine; he graduated from Southern Illinois University with | ||||||
| 9 | a degree in City Planning; while in college, he was a research | ||||||
| 10 | assistant to R. Buckminster Fuller; he married Barbara Jean | ||||||
| 11 | Brenner in Danville on February 6, 1982; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, David Nolan's jobs included city planning in | ||||||
| 13 | Warren, Ohio and Decatur, being part of the Regional Planning | ||||||
| 14 | Commission in Vermilion County, and working as a day-treatment | ||||||
| 15 | counselor at Danville Manor Nursing Home, Promise House, and | ||||||
| 16 | Crosspoint Human Services; after retirement, he worked part | ||||||
| 17 | time at Crose Insurance in Danville and was the co-curator of | ||||||
| 18 | the Alley Gallery located at 113 N. Vermilion Street in | ||||||
| 19 | Danville, a place designed to offer exposure and experience in | ||||||
| 20 | a gallery setting to local artists; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, David Nolan was a self-taught professional fine | ||||||
| 22 | arts photographer whose boundless curiosity led him to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | experiment with photographic processes such as 1850s | ||||||
| 2 | cyanotypes, standard and manipulated Polaroids, darkroom | ||||||
| 3 | photography, hand coloring black-and-white prints, liquid | ||||||
| 4 | emulsion, large format cameras, and digital prints; he | ||||||
| 5 | sculpted whimsical figures to use in his photographs that were | ||||||
| 6 | featured at the Springer Cultural Center in Champaign; his | ||||||
| 7 | photographs have been exhibited and awarded at several | ||||||
| 8 | galleries and venues in Danville, Champaign-Urbana, Mount | ||||||
| 9 | Vernon, Warren, Ohio, and Denver, Colorado; many of his photos | ||||||
| 10 | are housed at the Sousa Archives at the University of | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois, and the rest of his works and negatives will be added | ||||||
| 12 | to the collection later; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, David Nolan's victory over polio taught him quiet | ||||||
| 14 | patience, which was a hallmark of his demeanor; he was | ||||||
| 15 | intelligent and always ready to learn new things; he enjoyed | ||||||
| 16 | all styles of music and loved live concerts; he will | ||||||
| 17 | especially be remembered for his expressive eyes and deep, | ||||||
| 18 | powerful laughter; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, David Nolan was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 20 | his two brothers, Joseph Michael Nolan and Lloyd Eugene Nolan; | ||||||
| 21 | his sister-in-law, Linda Iwanicki Nolan; his brother-in-law, | ||||||
| 22 | Lonnie Azecusky; and his two nephews, Anthony Perkins | ||||||
| 23 | (Brenner) and Ryan Merana; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, David Nolan is survived by his wife, Barbara; his | ||||||
| 2 | brother, Arthur Francis Nolan; his sister, Sharon Nolan | ||||||
| 3 | Azecusky; his brother-in-law, Richard (Joann) Joseph Brenner; | ||||||
| 4 | his niece and nephews, Zachary Merana, Connor Nolan, Trevor | ||||||
| 5 | Nolan, Marina Patrice Nolan Vare, Joseph Brenner, and Andrew | ||||||
| 6 | Brenner; his several grandnieces and grandnephews; his two | ||||||
| 7 | cats, Ernie and Jessie; and his big dog, Noah; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 10 | David Martin Nolan and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 11 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 12 | further

| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to the family of David Nolan as an expression of our | ||||||
| 15 | deepest sympathy.
