SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Pedro Velez of Burlington, Wisconsin, who passed away on April 10, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was born to Octavio Velez and Carmen Lopez Velez in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on September 11, 1940; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez arrived in the United States when he was 17; he began his journey on the east coast and later moved to Chicago where he would meet his love, Carin; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez married Carin (Malecki) Velez and remained married for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez and his wife later moved to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where he spent the rest of his life; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was affectionately known as Bolo, a nickname given to him by his firstborn grandson; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was an avid dominoes player and was an exceptional gardener and cook; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was the loving father of William Velez, Amy Velez, John (Vanessa) Velez, Edward (Maggie) Velez, Rebecca (Benjamin Collazo) Velez-Collazo, and Eric Velez, the dearest brother of Roberto Velez, the late Genaro Velez, Octavio (Victor) Velez, the late Carmelina Velez, Jose Antonio Velez, and Ana Celia Velez, the beloved son of the late Octavio and Carmen (Rivera) Velez, the cherished grandfather of Benjamin Collazo, Liliana Velez, Emily Velez, Daniela Velez, Michael Morgan, Lucas Collazo, Charles "Chucky" Castro, and Justin Castro, the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews, and the missed presence of many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Pedro Velez and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pedro Velez as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
