| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Jay H. Pearce on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement from public broadcasting in | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has worked in radio and television | ||||||
| 7 | broadcasting for
almost 50 years, spanning stations in Texas, | ||||||
| 8 | Missouri, and Illinois; he has worked with public broadcasting | ||||||
| 9 | stations for more than half of his career; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, For the last 11 years, Jay Pearce has served as | ||||||
| 11 | the CEO,
general manager, and an on-air host for WVIK at | ||||||
| 12 | Augustana College; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, During his time at WVIK, Jay Pearce has worked to | ||||||
| 14 | make the station a community
leader by partnering with local | ||||||
| 15 | businesses on numerous projects,
expanding programming, and | ||||||
| 16 | serving as an advocate for local news, art,
and entertainment; | ||||||
| 17 | and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has also worked to ensure that WVIK is | ||||||
| 19 | situated to face the difficulties of a new era by adapting the | ||||||
| 20 | station's portfolio for the digital age, which was further | ||||||
| 21 | highlighted when a station-produced podcast reached number two | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | in the
national podcast rankings; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has dedicated significant time to | ||||||
| 3 | training the next generation of
journalists and broadcasters, | ||||||
| 4 | including teaching classes at Southern Illinois University and | ||||||
| 5 | the
University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has also proven himself as a trusted | ||||||
| 7 | expert in his field and
a respected member of his community; he | ||||||
| 8 | has served on several advisory and directory boards,
including | ||||||
| 9 | NPR, the Illinois Broadcasters Association Foundation, the | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois Associated
Press Broadcasters Association, the Quad | ||||||
| 11 | Cities Illinois
Rotary Club, and the ONE Foundation of | ||||||
| 12 | Bettendorf, Iowa; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Jay H. Pearce on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 16 | retirement
in public broadcasting from WVIK, commend his long | ||||||
| 17 | career in public
broadcasting, and wish him the best in his | ||||||
| 18 | future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 20 | presented to Jay Pearce as an expression of our esteem and
| ||||||
| 21 | respect.
