HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John E. Price III of Thebes, who passed away on January 31, 2022; and

WHEREAS, John Price was born to John E. and Zelma (Bowles) Price Jr. in Cairo on January 29, 1956; he was a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, John Price was a retired business agent and secretary treasurer for Local 773, and he dedicated his life to the working men and women of the union and The Laborers Charitable Foundation of Local 773; he began working construction through Local 773 in the summer of 1976; he was appointed business manager of Local 773 in Cairo in 1998, representing construction, industrial, public employees, and health care workers; he later became a representative for railroad construction and maintenance, environmental clean-up, and derailment members; he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Railroad Maintenance & Industrial Health and Welfare Fund in 2002; after the 2003 merger, he was elected as secretary-treasurer for Local 773 in Marion, vice president of 12th District AFL/CIO Community on Political Education (C.O.P.E.), sergeant at arms for the Southern and Central Illinois Laborers' District Council, and delegate to the LiUNA National Convention until his retirement in 2017; after his retirement, he served the local union by remaining on the Local 773 Retiree Board, where he later served as president; and

WHEREAS, John Price served on numerous boards, including the Shawnee Community College Foundation as a board member and chairman, The Laborers Care (TLC), the Alexander County Housing Authority, the Alexander County Port Authority Board, the Horseshoe Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Local 773 Credit Union, Railcet, the Railroad Training Board, the Alexander County Building Commission as commissioner, Local 773 Southern Illinois Laborers Health & Welfare, and Delta Development; and

WHEREAS, John Price was a member and trustee of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church; he was a former deputy for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department from 1980 until 1987; and

WHEREAS, John Price loved his family deeply and cherished every friendship he made; he loved fishing, riding his side-by-side with his grandson, and working in the yard; he was ready to help when anyone had a need, and he was usually the first one there and the last to leave; and

WHEREAS, John Price was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, John Price is survived by his wife, Nancy Price; his sons, John E. Price IV, Zachary Cache Price, and Trenton Chase Price (Sara Kuehl); his brother, Ronald (Martha) Price; his sister, Pamela (Mike) Malone; his grandson, Lincoln Everette Price; his soon-to-arrive grandchild, John Price; and his numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John E. Price III and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Price as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
