HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Greg Kelley on his new 
4role with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 
5Illinois State Council and on becoming the first Black 
6president of the council; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, As president of the SEIU Illinois State Council, 
8Greg Kelley will represent 150,000 workers  in health care, 
9property services, and public sectors across three local 
10unions, the majority of whom are frontline, essential workers; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Greg Kelley's ascension comes at an important 
13moment for labor advocacy in Illinois, as workers across the 
14State win higher wages, better conditions, and stronger 
15protections; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Greg Kelley is the current president of SEIU 
17Healthcare Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Kansas, which 
18represents 90,000 healthcare, child care, nursing home and 
19home healthcare workers across four states; his 20-plus years 
20in the labor movement began when he was a rank-and-file SEIU 
21member at the Cook County Clerk's office; his organizing work 
22grew from there, and he was named president of the

1fastest-growing union in the Midwest in 2020; therefore, be it
  
 

  
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we congratulate Greg Kelley on his new role with the  SEIU 
5Illinois State Council and on becoming the first Black 
6president of the council; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to Greg Kelley as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
