| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of

| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Cheryl Green on
her |
| 4 | | appointment as president of Governors State University; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green has a doctorate and a master's degree |
| 6 | | in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois
University in |
| 7 | | Carbondale; she obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology |
| 8 | | from Manchester
College (Manchester University) in North |
| 9 | | Manchester, Indiana; she holds a National
Incident Management |
| 10 | | System certificate from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management |
| 11 | | Institute and has
been trained in crisis intervention; she is |
| 12 | | a recognized leader in grievance mediation and conflict
|
| 13 | | resolution; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green brings more than 30 years of |
| 15 | | professional experience in higher education to her
role as the |
| 16 | | sixth president of Governors State University and as the |
| 17 | | leader of the Jaguar family; she is a
passionate educator and |
| 18 | | administrator and believes fiercely in the power of education |
| 19 | | to change
lives; throughout her career, she has pioneered the |
| 20 | | innovation of academic enrichment
opportunities and student |
| 21 | | success initiatives that promote increased retention and |
| 22 | | graduation rates for
first generation and non-traditional |
| 23 | | college students; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green's community service work spans the |
| 2 | | United States and has included serving
on 10 different |
| 3 | | advisory boards or boards of directors; recently, she has been |
| 4 | | active on the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute STEM Grant |
| 5 | | Advisory Board of the University of Wisconsin Madison, the |
| 6 | | Manchester University
Board of Trustees, the Forward 50 |
| 7 | | Advisory Board for the National Association of Student and |
| 8 | | Financial
Aid Administrators, and the Milwaukee-based Gift of |
| 9 | | Adoption Wisconsin Board of Directors; she is dedicated to |
| 10 | | making a difference in her community; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green's fiscal experience includes the budget |
| 12 | | management of more than 300 million
dollars at three |
| 13 | | universities; throughout her career, she has served as the |
| 14 | | primary or contributing
author for multiple grants that |
| 15 | | yielded more than five million dollars in revenue; most of her
|
| 16 | | scholarly research has been focused on increasing student |
| 17 | | achievement and delivering community-based health initiatives |
| 18 | | for diverse student populations; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green is a tireless advocate for students
who |
| 20 | | come from first-generation college families; she
intensely |
| 21 | | believes in the transformational effects a college
education |
| 22 | | can have on students and their families; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Green, originally from Chicago, is the loving |
| 2 | | mother of two adult
children who constantly keep her inspired |
| 3 | | to believe in the worth and potential of all human beings and

| 4 | | to make a difference in the world; therefore, be it
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 6 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 7 | | we
congratulate Dr. Cheryl Green on her appointment as

| 8 | | president of Governors State University, and we commend her
|
| 9 | | leadership and dedication to students and their education; and |
| 10 | | be it further
|
