| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of David |
| 4 | | Nathaniel Johnson, who passed away on May 15, 2021 at the age |
| 5 | | of 72; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, David Johnson grew up in Harvey; he graduated |
| 7 | | from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, where he was |
| 8 | | later inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame; he graduated from |
| 9 | | Howard University; he later earned his graduate degree in |
| 10 | | Political Science from Rutgers University; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, David Johnson served as the first Black mayor of |
| 12 | | Harvey for three consecutive terms from 1983 to 1995; during |
| 13 | | his tenure, he was noted for his diligence to the city and for |
| 14 | | being well respected among area elected officials; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, David Johnson was a professor of African History, |
| 16 | | African American History, Political Science, Sociology, and |
| 17 | | Urban Studies at South Suburban College for 36 years, and he |
| 18 | | taught over 10,000 students during his teaching career; he |
| 19 | | retired as chairman of the Department of Social and Behavioral |
| 20 | | Sciences in 2008; and
