HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, James "Jim" Michael Gainer, second child and 
3second son born to Francis and Mary Gainer at Little Company of 
4Mary Hospital, is celebrating his 80th year of life on May 
520th, 2021; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Gainer has affectionately been referred to as 
7son, brother, husband, uncle, father, friend, patrolman, 
8officer, sergeant, Seamus, Mr. Gainer, bingo police, and Gymm 
9during the course of the last of the last 80 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Gainer was educated in the Catholic 
11traditions, under the tutelage of the Sisters of Notre Dame at 
12Saint Margaret of Scotland, graduating in  1955, the 
13Augustinians at Mendel Catholic High School, graduating in  
141959, and  the Sisters of Mercy at Saint Xavier University, 
15graduating on May 22, 1985; and
 
16    WHEREAS, On October 1, 1963, Jim Gainer was hired by the 
17Chicago Police Department to serve as a patrolman; he was 
18assigned to the Crime Lab in March of 1967; by the time he 
19retired on June 22, 1996, he was the chief firearms examiner of 
20the Chicago Crime Lab; and
 
21    WHEREAS, On July 3, 1996, Jim Gainer was hired by the

1Illinois State Police as head of Forensics; he retired from 
2the Illinois State Police Department on July 5, 2000; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, On April 29th, 1966, Jim Gainer had the good 
4sense to ask Anne Therese Keane to be his bride; on September 
510, 1966, he made good on that promise with the blessings of 
6Father John Keane; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, From 1967 to 1975, Jim Gainer became a loving 
8father and mentor to Katie, Jimmy, Julie, Mike and Moira; from 
91993 to 2001, he became father-in-law to Pat, Sue, Jen, Katy, 
10and Clayton; from 1997 to 2011, he became Papa to Nellie, Jake, 
11Mati, Ben, Emma, Mia, JP, Quinn, Macayla, Shea, and Griff; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Jim Gainer, in a quest for a balanced life and 
13with a thirst for learning, pursued and mastered many hobbies, 
14including but not limited to running, fishing, hunting, 
15bagpipes, darts, photography, carpentry, scuba diving, 
16camping, and collecting shot glasses from around the world; 
17and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, For the last 80 years, Jim Gainer has lived a life 
19of service to his community and country by being trustworthy, 
20curious, friendly, kind, loving, faithful, brave, funny, 
21loyal, and wise; he has passed along skills, knowledge, 
22respect, and love to the people he has met in his travels, and

1all are better from knowing him; therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we congratulate James "Jim" Michael Gainer on the occasion of 
5his 80th Birthday and wish him many more years of health and 
6happiness; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this be presented to Jim 
8Gainer as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
