HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mildred Bowden on the 
4occasion of her 100th birthday on April 8, 2021; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden was born in Apex, North Carolina 
6on April 8, 1921; she was 18 months old when she arrived in 
7Chicago; she has been a lifelong resident of the South Side of 
8Chicago; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden worked at the Rhumboggie Cafe on 
1055th Street, which was owned by boxing great Joe Louis; she 
11also worked as an intake supervisor at Cook County Hospital 
12for 30 years; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, In her lifetime, Mildred Bowden has seen 19 
14presidents, 18 governors, and 16 mayors; her favorite 
15president is Theodore Roosevelt, because she feels that every 
16American benefited from his service; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden has been a faithful member and 
18fundraiser at Christ Universal Temple; she loves celebrating 
19Christmas and served her family Christmas dinner for 50 years; 
20and

1    WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden is the mother of Hermene Hartman; 
2therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate Mildred Bowden on celebrating her 100th 
6birthday, and we wish her many more happy and healthy years; 
7and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Mildred Bowden as an expression of our esteem and 
10respect.
