| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 27-23.15 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/27-23.15 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 27-23.15. Study of the process of naturalization. |
| 8 | | Every public high school may include in its curriculum a unit |
| 9 | | of instruction about the process of naturalization by which a |
| 10 | | foreign citizen or foreign national becomes a U.S. citizen. |
| 11 | | The course of instruction shall include content from the |
| 12 | | components of the naturalization test administered by the U.S. |
| 13 | | Citizenship and Immigration Services. Each school board shall |
| 14 | | determine the minimum amount of instructional time under this |
| 15 | | Section.

| 16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 17 | | becoming law.
