| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Sam Smith of Marion, who passed away on |
| 4 | | January 22, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sam Smith was born to Stanley and Wanda (Jones) |
| 6 | | Smith in Marion on October 7, 1946; he married Jane Woodruff on |
| 7 | | Valentine's Day, 1969; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Sam Smith proudly served his nation in the U.S. |
| 9 | | Army; he worked for 27 years as a Marion Police Officer and |
| 10 | | then worked as a funeral assistant at Blue Funeral Home; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Sam Smith enjoyed attending Whiteash Freewill |
| 12 | | Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family on the |
| 13 | | beach in Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Sam Smith is survived by his wife of 50 years, |
| 15 | | Jane Smith; his daughter, Kristal (Tim) Rush; two grandsons, |
| 16 | | Jason and Zachary Rush; his sister, Barbara Mayfield; his |
| 17 | | brother-in-law, Bill Jager, Sr.; his nephews, Bill Jager, Jr., |
| 18 | | Mark Jager, and Cody Mayfield; his niece, Suzie Roth; and his |
| 19 | | baby boy, "Boo"; therefore, be it
