| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Greg L. Rieves Sr.; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Greg Rieves was born in Chicago to Fred and Hattie |
| 5 | | Rieves on August 12, 1968; he grew up in Maywood and attended |
| 6 | | Lexington Elementary School and Proviso East High
School, where |
| 7 | | he participated in numerous activities including basketball |
| 8 | | and
baseball; he attended Indiana State
University on a |
| 9 | | baseball scholarship, where he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma |
| 10 | | Fraternity, Inc.; he earned both his
Bachelor of Science and |
| 11 | | Master of Science in Criminology from Indiana State
University; |
| 12 | | and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Greg Rieves was an Illinois State Trooper and |
| 14 | | served for 25 years until his
retirement at the age of 50; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1997, Greg Rieves and Donna welcomed a son, |
| 16 | | Greg "G" Rieves Jr.; he took
fatherhood very seriously and was |
| 17 | | proud that his son became a college graduate and fraternity |
| 18 | | brother; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Greg Rieves continued his baseball career and |
| 20 | | played on numerous semi-professionally teams later in life; he |
| 21 | | was a very disciplined, charismatic, and upstanding man whose |

transcended through all of his passions and |
| 2 | | relationships; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Greg Rieves was preceded in death by his brother, |
| 4 | | Bryant Rieves, and his sister-in-law, Betty
Rieves; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Greg Rieves is survived by his son, Greg Rieves |
| 6 | | Jr.; his mother, Hattie Rieves; his father, Fred
Rieves; his |
| 7 | | sisters, Diamond and Starr Rieves; his brothers, Tobia (Sheila) |
| 8 | | Hill,
Christopher Rieves, Avonte Rieves, Valsco Rieves, and |
| 9 | | Xavier Rieves; his special loved ones,
Donna Merrill and |
| 10 | | stepchildren, Ariele (Etienne) Nelson and Jordan Smith; his |
| 11 | | special friend, Stacey
Simmons; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, |
| 12 | | and nephews; therefore, be it

| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
| 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 15 | | Greg L. Rieves Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 17 | | further

| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the family of Greg Rieves as an expression of our |
