SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Specialist Henry Jarrett Mayfield Jr. of Hazel Crest, who passed away while on duty in Kenya, Africa on January 5, 2020; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. was born to Henry Mayfield Sr. and Crystal Davis on October 14, 1996; he attended Lionel Hampton Elementary, William J. Bogan High School, and later graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2014; he then attended Northern Illinois University, where he majored in business; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. began working as an Aircraft Fueler at Aircraft Service International Group (ASIG) in 2016; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 21, 2017; he attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia; he was awarded the MOS of 91C Utilities Equipment Repairer; he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment at Fort Rucker, Alabama; he was deployed with the 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment to Kenya, Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Horn of Africa in October 2019; his awards and decorations included the Combat Action Badge (posthumous), the Bronze Star Medal (posthumous), the Purple Heart (posthumous), the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. committed to his faith at an early age and was baptized by Reverend Marion Johnson Sr. of Come Alive Ministry of Faith Church; he was affectionately known as "Boo-Boo" to his family and enjoyed spending quality time with his siblings and cousins; he is remembered for bringing joy to anyone who met him; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Jacqueline Overton; and his grandparents, Ronnie E. Mayfield Sr., Stephanie Mayfield, and Levola Reed; and

WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield Jr. is survived by his parents, Henry Mayfield Sr. and Carmoneta Horton-Mayfield; his biological mother, Crystal Davis; his fiancée, Ce ara Hughes; his grandmother, Annette Horton; his grandfather, Michael Thompson; his brothers, Ronald, Tyron, Michael, and Nicholas; his sisters, Danielle (Cornelia), Ciara, Taliyah, and Tyshauna; his uncles, Ronnie Jr. (Sonya), Ricky (Detrich), Anthony (Mattie), and Melvin; his aunts, Elizabeth, Chaquitta, Charron, Andrea, and Martina (Joseph); his niece and nephew; and his great aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Specialist Henry Jarrett Mayfield Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of SPC Mayfield Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
