| 2 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Henry Jarrett "Mitch" Mayfield Jr. |
| 3 | | bravely served our country in the United States Army, |
| 4 | | selflessly dedicating his time on earth to protecting our lives |
| 5 | | and keeping our families safe; and

| 6 | | WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield, age 23, of Hazel Crest was killed in |
| 7 | | action on January 5, 2020 from injuries sustained during a |
| 8 | | terror attack on the Manda Bay Airfield in Kenya; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After attending Northern Illinois University, SPC |
| 10 | | Mayfield enlisted in the Army; he joined the U.S. Army on |
| 11 | | August 21, 2017 and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 58th |
| 12 | | Aviation Regiment, 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group, |
| 13 | | Fort Rucker, Alabama; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, SPC Mayfield was described by the commander of Air |
| 15 | | Traffic Services Command as an individual who inspired those |
| 16 | | with whom he served to excel both on and off duty; he received |
| 17 | | numerous awards and commendations, including the Bronze Star |
| 18 | | Medal (posthumous), the Purple Heart, (posthumous), the Army |
| 19 | | Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the |
| 20 | | Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on |
| 21 | | Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas |
| 22 | | Service Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge (posthumous), the |
