HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to commend the Illinois State Police, 
4under the leadership of Director Brendan F. Kelly, for their 
5exceptional service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent 
6turmoil in  major cities during the week of May 25 to June 1, 
72020; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police was officially created 
9in 1922; since its inception, the Illinois State Police has 
10fostered and served with a reputation for integrity, service, 
11and pride; the Illinois State Police's functions include 
12protecting life and property, enforcing both criminal laws and 
13motor vehicle safety laws, responding to emergencies and 
14disasters, and providing a myriad of diverse specialized 
15services to both the public and the criminal justice community; 
16and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police met the challenge posed 
18by the novel coronavirus, completing missions for the Illinois 
19Department of Public Health, for hospitals, for nursing homes, 
20and for local law enforcement; armed with PPE and the latest 
21science on COVID-19, they forged new and stronger relationships 
22with local law enforcement and walked the fine line between 
23education, enforcement, and community caretaking; they led

1security for the Illinois House of Representatives in a special 
2session to support the  democratic process during a pandemic; 
3most importantly, they protected the health of the people of 
4Illinois; and with no rest from their exhaustive efforts, they 
5immediately faced the further demands of racial tensions in 
6major cities; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
9we commend the Illinois State Police for their exceptional 
10service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent turmoil in 
11major cities during the week of May 25 to June 1, 2020; and be 
12it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to the Director of the Illinois State Police, Brendan 
15F. Kelly, as an expression of our esteem and respect.
