| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of his retirement as CEO of Rush University | ||||||
| 5 | Medical Center; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman served as CEO from February 2002 to | ||||||
| 7 | May 2019; during this time, he also served as president of Rush | ||||||
| 8 | University until February 2, 2019; he was the first CEO of the | ||||||
| 9 | Rush University System for Health, serving in this role from | ||||||
| 10 | March 2017 to May 2019; he holds the academic rank of professor | ||||||
| 11 | of internal medicine and is the university's James A. Campbell, | ||||||
| 12 | M.D., Distinguished Service Professor; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Under Dr. Goodman's leadership, Rush University | ||||||
| 14 | Medical Center became nationally recognized for excellence in | ||||||
| 15 | patient care, breakthrough research, community engagement, and | ||||||
| 16 | technological innovation while also returning to and | ||||||
| 17 | maintaining a position of solid financial strength; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Before his appointments as CEO, Dr. Goodman served | ||||||
| 19 | as senior vice president of medical affairs and dean of Rush | ||||||
| 20 | Medical College; from 1995 to 1998, he was the medical director | ||||||
| 21 | of Cook County Hospital (John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook | ||||||
| 22 | County); prior to that, he served at Rush University Medical | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Center as an infectious disease specialist, as associate dean | ||||||
| 2 | of Rush Medical College, and as assistant dean of clinical | ||||||
| 3 | curriculum; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a 1976 graduate of the University | ||||||
| 5 | of Michigan Medical School; he completed a residency in | ||||||
| 6 | internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease at | ||||||
| 7 | Rush University Medical Center; during his fellowship, he | ||||||
| 8 | served as chief medical resident before joining the faculty; | ||||||
| 9 | and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman serves on the board of The CORE | ||||||
| 11 | Foundation, a model public-private venture between Cook County | ||||||
| 12 | and Rush University Medical Center that established The Ruth M. | ||||||
| 13 | Rothstein CORE Center, which cares for approximately 7,000 | ||||||
| 14 | patients with HIV/AIDS; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a member of the Commercial Club of | ||||||
| 16 | Chicago and a board member of its Civic Consulting Alliance, | ||||||
| 17 | which provides pro bono consulting services to the City of | ||||||
| 18 | Chicago and Cook County in areas of greatest public need; he is | ||||||
| 19 | also is a member of the board of the Joffrey Ballet; therefore, | ||||||
| 20 | be it

| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 22 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

| 1 | we congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on his retirement as CEO | ||||||
| 2 | of Rush University Medical Center; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to Dr. Goodman as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 5 | respect.
