| 2 | | WHEREAS, Illinois' elected Jewish leaders must stand up in |
| 3 | | defense of Israel and the entire
Jewish population throughout |
| 4 | | the State at all times, not only during times of divisive and |
| 5 | | hateful speech; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Israel stands as the singular beacon of liberal |
| 7 | | democracy in a part of the world
where democracy does not exist |
| 8 | | and is under constant threat from attack by neighboring
|
| 9 | | religious zealots out to destroy Israel; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Anti-Semitism is on the rise and must be |
| 11 | | confronted with a strong voice and
continued support against |
| 12 | | hateful rhetoric; in the last two years, more than half of |
| 13 | | religious
attacks were committed against American Jews, and |
| 14 | | there has been an increase in anti-Semitic incidents; |
| 15 | | therefore, be it

| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we hold firm in our support for the democratic state of Israel |
| 19 | | and
Illinois' Jewish population and our unwavering |
| 20 | | condemnation of hateful and divisive anti-Semitic
rhetoric; |
| 21 | | and be it further
