| 2 | | WHEREAS, Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. Chicago |
| 3 | | Chapter 2 has been
headquartered at 7011 South Vincennes Avenue |
| 4 | | since 1983; it consists of members who have served
in every |
| 5 | | American conflict from World War II to Operation Iraqi Freedom; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Montford Point Marine Association has donated |
| 8 | | tens of thousands of dollars to
scholarship programs, shut-in |
| 9 | | veterans, and needy families; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The banquet halls of the headquarters have been |
| 11 | | used as a meeting place in the
community for events such as |
| 12 | | weddings, Masonic groups, and Greek organizations; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, President Barack Obama awarded the |
| 14 | | Congressional Gold Medal to every
member of the Montford Point |
| 15 | | Marines both living and deceased; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we urge Cook County to grant an extension to Montford
Point |
| 19 | | Marine Association, Inc. Chicago Chapter 2 so that they might |
| 20 | | raise funds to pay off $75,000 in
back taxes and continue to |
| 21 | | provide valuable support to the community.
