SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary J. Aavang of Greenwood, who passed away on November 22, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Gary Aavang was born in Woodstock to Rodney and Libbie (Barber) Aavang on December 16, 1956; a lifelong resident of Greenwood Township, he graduated from Woodstock High School in 1975; he attended McHenry County College; he married Michele DeYoung in Woodstock on July 27, 1998; and

WHEREAS, Gary Aavang was a longtime member of the McHenry County Farm Bureau and the McHenry County Fair Association and, at different times, served on the boards of directors for both organizations; he was a proud past member and current supporter of both the 4-H and FFA organizations; he was passionate about agriculture, and his farmer friends referred to him as the "Secretary of Agriculture'; and

WHEREAS, Gary Aavang was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Aavang; and

WHEREAS, Gary Aavang is survived by his wife, Michele; his stepson, Grant (Kate Quinn) DeYoung; his mother, Libbie Aavang; his siblings, Dan (the late Cathy) Aavang, Sarah (Robert Lukes) Aavang, John Aavang, and JoAnn (David) Lohse; his aunt, Ann (Barber) Balakier; his nieces and nephews, Rachel (Vassil Antonov) Aavang, Deanne Aavang, Jessie (Wei Nan) Lin, Brandon (Julie) Lohse, Josh (Anna) Lohse, Hannah (Chris McKee Jr.) Lohse, Alyssa (Kevin) Paschke, and Morgan (Daniel) Hayes; his many cousins; and his beloved dog, Bert; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary J. Aavang and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Aavang as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
