SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Steven Ray "Steve" Smothers of 
4Pittsfield, who passed away on July 26, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Steve Smothers was born in Pittsfield to Donna M. 
6Smothers on March 2, 1954; he graduated from Pittsfield High 
7School
in 1973 and married Sandy Bergman at the Detroit 
8Christian Church on November 24, 1973; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Steve Smothers worked for Saylor Livestock for 
10several years before spending 25 years as manager  at what is 
11now Kitchen Seed in Pittsfield; for the past 20 years, he  
12worked as an inspector for the Department of Agriculture; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Steve Smothers served as alderman for the city of 
14Pittsfield for 20 years; he was a member of Pittsfield Church 
15of the Nazarene and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing; he 
16collected Coca-Cola memorabilia and loved mowing the yard; most 
17of all, he  enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and 
18family; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Steve Smothers was preceded in death by his 
20mother, Donna Marie Smothers, and his uncles, Lee, Jim, and 
21Bill Patterson; and

1    WHEREAS, Steve Smothers is survived by his wife of nearly 
245 years, Sandy; his son, Robert (Candie) Smothers Sr.; his 
3daughters, Crystal (Jason) Huss and Candice (Olufemi) 
4Famuwagun; his  grandchildren, Brittany (Austin Dove) Smothers, 
5Breanna Smothers, Robert Smothers Jr., MJ Famuwagun, Grayson 
6Huss, and Ryland Huss; his great-grandchild, Layla Nicole Dove; 
7his  brothers, Larry and Gary (Ashley) Smothers; and his sister, 
8Susan Brown; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
11Steven Ray "Steve" Smothers and extend our sincere condolences 
12to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be 
13it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to  the family of  Steve Smothers as an expression of 
16our deepest sympathy.
