| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Bernard "Bernie" Forrest of Deerfield, |
| 4 | | who passed away on August 21, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Forrest was born and raised on the north |
| 6 | | side of Chicago; he was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the |
| 7 | | level of Eagle Scout; he graduated from University of Illinois |
| 8 | | with a degree in chemistry and served in the U.S. Army for two |
| 9 | | years; he married Joan in California in 1953, and they settled |
| 10 | | in Deerfield in 1959; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Forrest had a distinguished career in the |
| 12 | | food industry; he led several companies, beginning with Golden |
| 13 | | Crown Juice and ending as president of The Long Company and |
| 14 | | owner of the Holsum Bread Company; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Forrest spent 36 years on the Deerfield |
| 16 | | Village Board, serving as mayor from 1969 to 2001; he was known |
| 17 | | for his strong, visionary leadership and for his innovative |
| 18 | | approaches to village finances; when he left office, Deerfield |
| 19 | | renamed its headquarters the Bernard Forrest Deerfield Village |
| 20 | | Hall; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Forrest volunteered with the Jaycees, |
