SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Norma Jean Jensen of Waukegan, who passed away on May 13, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jensen was born to Rudolph and Anna Liebert on June 3, 1936; and

WHEREAS, Prior to her return to Waukegan, Norma Jensen and her husband, Wayne, resided in Waianae, Hawaii; she loved taking long walks collecting papayas, mangos, and peacock feathers; she especially enjoyed taking the bus into Honolulu for her activities; and

WHEREAS, After her retirement from the Waukegan Public Schools, Norma Jensen became a fulltime volunteer; she received numerous recognitions for her volunteer work, including the President's Call to Service Award; she gave many hours to Vista, the Greenbelt Cultural Center, Habitat for Humanity, AARP, the Lake County Council for Seniors, the Park Place Senior Center, Queens Medical Center Hawaii, Look Good Feel Better, the Festival of Trees, Lake County Elections, Lake County Sheriff, Waukegan's Citizen Emergency Responders, Elder Care, and Meals on Wheels; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jensen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukegan and Waianae, Hawaii; she was involved with the choir, ringing bells, coordinating and serving free meals, mission trips, and sharing her crafting talents at vacation bible school; she also was involved with the Little Fort Lions Club, where she was a recipient of the Red Carisson Humanitarian Award and served as president twice; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jensen enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, watching football and hockey, listening to classical music, flower arranging, shopping, and gardening; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jensen was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Wayne Childers; her son, Richard Jensen; her brother, Bill Liebert; and her son-in-law, Bruce Anderson; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jensen is survived by her brother, Fredrick Liebert; her daughter, Jodi Anderson; her granddaughters, Jennifer (Mario) Demo and Sarah (Tim VanderVere) Anderson; and her great-grandchildren, Kai Demo and Lily May and Olivia VanderVere; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Norma Jean Jensen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Norma Jensen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
