| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Daryl Thomas; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was born and raised on the westside |
| 5 | | of Chicago, where he attended Resurrection Grammar School; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was a high school basketball star for |
| 7 | | Chicago-area power house St. Joseph High School in Westchester, |
| 8 | | where he played for Hall of Fame coach Gene Pingatore; he was a |
| 9 | | McDonald's and Parade All-American as a high school senior in |
| 10 | | 1983; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was a captain on Indiana University's |
| 12 | | 1987 national championship team, where he played for legendary |
| 13 | | coach Bobby Knight and assisted Keith Smart's iconic |
| 14 | | game-winning jumper against Syracuse; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas earned All-Big Ten honors during his |
| 16 | | junior and senior season and served as captain in 1986 and |
| 17 | | 1987; he finished his college career with 1,095 points and 419 |
| 18 | | rebounds in 106 games; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was taken in the sixth round in the |
| 20 | | 1987 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings; he played professional |
