SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of John J. Roth of Jacksonville, who passed 
4away on April 3, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, John Roth was born in Kampsville to John Jacob and 
6Elizabeth Catherine Nordbusch Roth on April 20, 1933 and  moved 
7to Jacksonville in 1937; he attended Our Saviour Grade School 
8and graduated from Routt High School in 1951; he graduated from 
9Hardin-Brown Business College in 1953 with a degree in business 
10administration; he joined the U.S. Navy on February 4, 1953 and 
11was assigned to the Destroyer USS Basilone for four years as an 
12electronics technician 2nd class; he married Patricia Ann 
13Craddock on December 26, 1953; he was released from active duty 
14on February  4, 1957 and served four years in the Navy Reserve; 
15he  was honorably discharged in 1961; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, John Roth joined the IBM Corporation in February 
17of 1957 as a customer service representative responsible for 
18maintenance and repair of data-processing computers; he 
19retired in May of 1987; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Roth was a life member of VFW, Jacksonville 
21Post 1379; he served on the Combined Veteran's Ceremonial Team 
22for more than 30 years; he was a member of Church of Our

1Saviour, where he sang in the choir for several years; he 
2enjoyed hunting, fishing, three-cushion billiards, and 
3stained-glass work; and
 
  
4    WHEREAS, John Roth married  Marie Coonen in 2006; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, John Roth was preceded in death by his wife of 47 
6years, Patricia; his parents; his  sisters, Margaret Mary 
7Caskey, Eunice Helen Keehner, and Leona Josephine Deeder; and 
8his daughter, Lori A. Olendzki; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, John Roth is survived by his wife, Marie; his  
10sons, J. Thomas (Kathryn), Joseph T. (Diana),  and David J. 
11Roth; his son-in-law, Don Olendzki; eight grandchildren; three 
12great-grandchildren; and Bill and Lori Coonen and their 
13children and grandchildren; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
16John J. Roth, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
17friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to  the family of  John Roth as an expression of our 
20deepest sympathy.
