| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Bonnie Ruth Gudat of Chillicothe, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on March 24, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bonnie Gudat was born to Milton and Ellen Homes | ||||||
| 6 | Eastman on July 24, 1944; a lifelong reader and lover of | ||||||
| 7 | learning, she studied many topics, including marine biology, | ||||||
| 8 | teaching, cytology, and occupational therapy, all capped by a | ||||||
| 9 | Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Bradley University; she | ||||||
| 10 | met Adam Gudat at the University of Illinois, and they married | ||||||
| 11 | in Western Springs, Illinois in 1966; after their wedding, they | ||||||
| 12 | moved west and settled in Los Angeles; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, During her working years in Los Angeles, Bonnie | ||||||
| 14 | Gudat first taught junior high science in the Watts area; she | ||||||
| 15 | then shifted to a cytology lab, where she studied microscopic | ||||||
| 16 | cancer cells; she later found a calling caring for babies with | ||||||
| 17 | medical needs and teaching a creative cooking class; in 1978, | ||||||
| 18 | she and her husband moved back to Illinois and adopted three | ||||||
| 19 | children; her work life then included transporting children | ||||||
| 20 | with medical needs to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, | ||||||
| 21 | serving at a special needs school in Peoria, working in | ||||||
| 22 | occupational therapy, painting elaborate designs on pumpkins | ||||||
| 23 | at Tanner's Orchard, and overseeing the greenhouses and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | plantings at Luthy Botanical Garden; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Bonnie Gudat was a member of the Universalist | ||||||
| 3 | Unitarian Church, where she planted the garden and displayed | ||||||
| 4 | her orchids on the altar; she was involved in many | ||||||
| 5 | organizations in Peoria, including the Garden Club, the Herb | ||||||
| 6 | Guild, the Accordion Club, the OLLI Recorder Ensemble, and the | ||||||
| 7 | German-American Society; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Bonnie Gudat was an avid gardener, inspired cook, | ||||||
| 9 | and a music maker; she had an affinity for water and felt at | ||||||
| 10 | home swimming and snorkeling in far away oceans and seas during | ||||||
| 11 | her global travels with Adam; in recent years, she continued to | ||||||
| 12 | enjoy swimming and water exercise with her friends; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Bonnie Gudat was the wife of Adam, the mother of | ||||||
| 14 | Patrick, Marilyne, and Donald, the grandmother of four, the | ||||||
| 15 | step-grandmother of four, and the step-great-grandmother of | ||||||
| 16 | one; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 19 | Bonnie Ruth Gudat and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further
