| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Gerard "Jerry" Louis O'Neill of |
| 4 | | Champaign, who passed away on March 21, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill was born in Champaign to John F. and |
| 6 | | Marjorie O'Neill on December 22, 1935; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Champaign High School in 1954; he earned a degree in |
| 8 | | agriculture economics from the University of Illinois in 1958; |
| 9 | | upon graduating from college, he served his country as a first |
| 10 | | lieutenant in the United States Army in Korea and Fort Knox, |
| 11 | | Kentucky from 1958 until 1960; he returned to the University of |
| 12 | | Illinois and earned an executive Master of Business |
| 13 | | Administration in 1977; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill served a leadership role as |
| 15 | | president and chairman of the board of American National Bank |
| 16 | | and later worked for Marine Bank, Bank One, and Chase; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill served many local charitable and |
| 18 | | civic organizations, including the United Way, the Champaign |
| 19 | | Chamber of Commerce, the Champaign Police and Fire Commission, |
| 20 | | Busey First National Bank, the Jaycees, where he received the |
| 21 | | Distinguished Service Award, the Community Foundation, the |
| 22 | | Champaign Country Club, the Disabled Citizens Foundation, the |

| 1 | | Kiwanis Club, St. Thomas More High School's Finance Committee, |
| 2 | | the Green Meadow Girl Scout Council, the Developmental Services |
| 3 | | Center, the City of Champaign Community Development Advisory |
| 4 | | Board, Delta Tau Delta, Provena Covenant Board of Directors, |
| 5 | | the Champaign Girls Club, the Girl Scout Council, and the |
| 6 | | America Business Woman's Association, where he was named Boss |
| 7 | | of the Year; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, In his free time, Jerry O'Neill enjoyed golf, |
| 9 | | racquetball, skiing, bocce ball, fishing, traveling, and |
| 10 | | watching his children and grandchildren play sports; his |
| 11 | | leadership qualities and dry sense of humor will be missed, but |
| 12 | | he leaves behind a legacy of community service; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill was preceded in death by his |
| 14 | | parents; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill is survived by his wife, Isabel; his |
| 16 | | children, Diane (Gary) Ballegeer and David (Kathy) O'Neill; his |
| 17 | | grandchildren, Gail (Heath) Lewis, Joe and Paul (Leigh Ann) |
| 18 | | Ballegeer, and Conor, Robby, and Matt O'Neill; his |
| 19 | | great-grandchildren, Isabel and Wellington; and his siblings, |
| 20 | | Gene and Richard (Bonnie) O'Neill; therefore, be it
