SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative Tom 
4Berns, who passed away on February 19, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Berns graduated from the University of 
6Illinois; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Berns made his living as a civil engineer; 
8after college, he worked for local engineer Chuck Danner before 
9forming his own firm, Berns, Clancy and Associates, in 1975; 
10today, the business is regarded as one the premier engineering 
11and surveying firms in East Central Illinois; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Berns was elected to  the Illinois House of 
13Representatives in 2000 and served one term; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Berns served on the boards for numerous 
15organizations, including the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit 
16District, the Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation, the Urbana 
17Rotary, the Urbana Country Club, Clark-Lindsey Village, and the 
18Champaign County Forest Preserve Friends Foundation; and
 

  
19    WHEREAS, Rep. Berns is survived by his wife of 52 years, 
20Jeannie; two children; and four grandchildren; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
3former Illinois State Representative Tom Berns, and extend our 
4sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew 
5and loved him; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to  the family of  Rep. Berns as an expression of our 
8deepest sympathy.
