SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Commander Paul Bauer, who was killed protecting his community on February 13, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer gave the ultimate sacrifice for his community, one that he swore to protect; he shall be remembered as a true hero to the people and to his family; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer was a 31-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department; he rose to the rank of Commander and led the 18th district on Chicago's near north side; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer will be remembered for his bravery in answering the call of duty; he made it his mission in life to try and connect with the community he served; he is remembered not only as a Chicago police officer, but also as a community icon; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer was a husband, brother, son, and father; he loved his daughter, Grace, and his wife, Erin, who were the center of his world; he will be remembered as a hero to the people of Chicago and as a loving man who was committed to his family; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer is survived by his daughter, Grace; his wife, Erin Nee Molloy; his parents, Paul and Annette Bauer; and his sisters, Pam (Andy) Howell, Sue (Frank) March, and Jane (Chris) Schuleitand; he will also be remembered as a dear brother-in-law, uncle, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Commander Paul Bauer gave the ultimate sacrifice to his community and the people of Chicago on February 13, 2018; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Commander Paul Bauer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Commander Paul Bauer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
