SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Page Johnson Parkhill of Champaign, who passed away on January 11, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was born in Champaign to Dr. William S. and Charlotte Keck Johnson on September 25, 1956; she attended Champaign schools, including South Side, Edison, and Central High School, where she was a state finalist in extemporaneous speech and graduated as one of the valedictorians of her class in 1974; she attended Duke University from 1974 until 1976, where she was a member of the varsity debate team; she then transferred to the University of Illinois and graduated with high honors with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1978; she married John Parkhill on March 31, 1979; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was a member of many organizations including her college sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and the Junior Leagues of Houston, St. Louis, and Champaign-Urbana; she served as a member of the Board of Directors at BankChampaign for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill co-founded with her brothers and Dr. Michael S. Goldwasser the William S. Johnson Fund in 1994 as a way of honoring her father; through the fund, Dr. Goldwasser led medical missions and provided free surgeries for cleft lip and palate deformities to children in underdeveloped countries; she traveled with Dr. Goldwasser and his surgical teams to the Philippines, Mexico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Honduras; and

WHEREAS, Most recently, Page Parkhill, along with her closest friends, organized an effort called Page's ALS Challenge (PALS) to raise funds to benefit other ALS patients in the Champaign-Urbana area; she was honored for her fundraising efforts and her advocacy for PALS with the Iron Horse award, the highest level of recognition from the ALS Association of Greater Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married; she served two terms on the vestry and twice as a rector's warden; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was preceded in death by her parents; her paternal grandparents, Leo and Henrietta Johnson; and her maternal grandparents, Charles and Edith Keck; and

WHEREAS, Page Parkhill is survived by her husband, John; her children, Whitney and Clayton (Stephanie); her brothers, William L. Johnson (Peggy) and David L. Johnson (Teresa); and her nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Page Johnson Parkhill and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Page Parkhill as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
