| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Curtis Henry Bremer of McHenry, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on December 9, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer was born in Lake City, Minnesota to | ||||||
| 6 | Henry and Clara (Wohlers) Bremer on April 29, 1933; he served | ||||||
| 7 | in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955; following his discharge | ||||||
| 8 | from active duty, he returned to Minnesota where he completed | ||||||
| 9 | eight years in the Army Reserve; he married Maria Rehfinger at | ||||||
| 10 | Trinity Lutheran Church in Maspeth, New York on November 17, | ||||||
| 11 | 1957; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer and his wife moved from Minnesota to | ||||||
| 13 | McHenry in 1959; he was affectionately known as "Mr. Recycle", | ||||||
| 14 | "Mr. Wonderful", and "Blue"; he was a 53-year member of Zion | ||||||
| 15 | Evangelical Lutheran Church in McHenry; he was a long-time | ||||||
| 16 | member of the McHenry Lions Club and volunteered for 26 years | ||||||
| 17 | with the Heartland Blood Bank; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer spent over 45 years umpiring, | ||||||
| 19 | beginning with the McHenry Little League, where he also coached | ||||||
| 20 | and served as president; he continued umpiring with the Fox | ||||||
| 21 | Valley Blues; he took 27 trips to officiate at Cooperstown | ||||||
| 22 | Dreams Park and was inducted into their hall of fame; a ball | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | field at Petersen Park in McHenry was named in his honor by the | ||||||
| 2 | City of McHenry; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer served as the McHenry Fiesta Days | ||||||
| 4 | Parade Marshal in 2012; he enjoyed square dancing as a member | ||||||
| 5 | of the Woodstock Squares, playing cribbage, and poker; he was | ||||||
| 6 | known around the area and within his church for his continued | ||||||
| 7 | recycling efforts; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 9 | parents; his brother, Walter; and his brother-in-law, Donald | ||||||
| 10 | Voigt; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Curtis Bremer is survived by his wife of 60 years, | ||||||
| 12 | Maria; his sons, David (Delynn), Stephen (Dana), and Brian | ||||||
| 13 | (Jamie); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his | ||||||
| 14 | sisters, Edith Voigt and Rita(Gary) Steffenhagen; and his | ||||||
| 15 | sister-in-law, Betty Bremer; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Curtis Henry Bremer, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to the family of Curtis Bremer as an expression of | ||||||
| 2 | our deepest sympathy.
