SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Barbara Ann "Barb" Guthrie of Pittsfield, 
4who passed away on January 1, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was born to Clyde and Nola
Wineland 
6Baughman on August 30, 1942; she graduated from Pleasant Hill 
7High School and attended Quincy University,
where she received 
8her bachelor's degree in education; she received her master's 
9degree from Western University; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie first taught fifth grade in Hull, 
11later moving to the Barry
School system, where she taught for 
1227 years; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, After retiring, Barb Guthrie moved to Pittsfield 
14and
became active at the United Methodist Church; she enjoyed 
15helping people learn to read and loved quilting and tending to 
16her flower garden; she was a member and recording secretary of 
17the Illinois State Board of Education; she was
the president of 
18the Mississippi Valley Reading Council and a member of Pike 
19County
H.C.E., the  Madonna Fellowship, and the Quilting Club; 
20and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents

1and her brothers, Lawrence and Bruce
Baughman; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie is survived by her son, Michael Kent 
3Guthrie; her grandchildren, Dillan and
Caleb Guthrie; and her 
4special friend, Larry Gooud; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
7Barbara Ann "Barb" Guthrie, and extend our sincere condolences 
8to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be 
9it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to  the family of  Barb Guthrie as an expression of our 
12deepest sympathy.
