| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Barbara Ann "Barb" Guthrie of Pittsfield, |
| 4 | | who passed away on January 1, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was born to Clyde and Nola
Wineland |
| 6 | | Baughman on August 30, 1942; she graduated from Pleasant Hill |
| 7 | | High School and attended Quincy University,
where she received |
| 8 | | her bachelor's degree in education; she received her master's |
| 9 | | degree from Western University; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie first taught fifth grade in Hull, |
| 11 | | later moving to the Barry
School system, where she taught for |
| 12 | | 27 years; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After retiring, Barb Guthrie moved to Pittsfield |
| 14 | | and
became active at the United Methodist Church; she enjoyed |
| 15 | | helping people learn to read and loved quilting and tending to |
| 16 | | her flower garden; she was a member and recording secretary of |
| 17 | | the Illinois State Board of Education; she was
the president of |
| 18 | | the Mississippi Valley Reading Council and a member of Pike |
| 19 | | County
H.C.E., the Madonna Fellowship, and the Quilting Club; |
| 20 | | and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents |
