| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Elizabeth "Liz" Buirts Lay, who passed |
| 4 | | away on October 29, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was born in Woodruff, Arkansas to |
| 6 | | Andrew and Obie Mae Buirts on September 5, 1937, the fourth of |
| 7 | | seven daughters; she committed to her faith at an early age at |
| 8 | | Vine Hill Baptist Church in Cotton Plant, Arkansas; she |
| 9 | | graduated from Cotton Plant Vocational High School, and she |
| 10 | | later relocated to Chicago; she married Samuel J. Lay on |
| 11 | | October 21, 1966; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay retired from Cook County Hospital |
| 13 | | after 38 years of service; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was a member of the Order of the |
| 15 | | Eastern Star Chapter #48 and the Heritage International |
| 16 | | Christian Church, where she worshiped under the leadership of |
| 17 | | Bishop Dwight Gunn, Senior Pastor, and was active in God's |
| 18 | | Seniors on the Move and the Missions Ministries; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was preceded in death by her |
| 20 | | parents; and her sisters, Ethel Sawyer, Deborah Brown, and Ella |
| 21 | | Buirts; and
|
