SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Mark Evans of Elk Grove Village, who 
4passed away on September 15, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Evans was a lifelong resident of Elk Grove 
6Village; he graduated from Elk Grove High School and then 
7enlisted in the United States Air Force National Guard in 1979; 
8he served in Africa, Central America, Japan, Area 51 in the 
9Mojave Desert, and the Demilitarized Zone that separates North 
10and South Korea; he remained an active service member for 26 
11years; after his retirement, he still felt a strong connection 
12to his brothers and sisters-in-arms and wanted to show 
13apprecation for their service; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Mark Evans co-founded the nonprofit organization, 
15Pizzas4Patriots, with his family in 2008; its mission is to 
16comfort active service members, first responders, and veterans 
17by providing one of the most popular American Foods while 
18they're far away from home, whether it be fighting on the front 
19lines, providing humanitarian relief, or recovering in a 
20veteran's facility; the continued goal of the organization is 
21to deliver a slice of pizza to active service members on the 
22days the United States celebrates the freedom they continue to 
23fight for: Memorial Day, The Fourth of July, Veteran's Day, and

1Superbowl Sunday; the organization has shipped over 160,000 
2pizzas and fed over 650,000 soldiers around the world; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Mark Evans, who is known as Sergeant Pizza by his 
4fellow servicemen and women, has received several humanitarian 
5awards and commendations for his charitable acts; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Mark Evans was preceded in death by his father, 
7Robert Evans; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Mark Evans is survived by his mother, Clara Evans; 
9his wife, Gail; his children, Melissa Hammond, Samantha Evans, 
10and Kent Evans; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin 
11Hammond; his siblings, Robert (Kim) Evans, Susan (Craig) Duan, 
12Tom Evans, Jim (Nancy) Evans, Christopher (Kim) Evans, and 
13Edith Woloszyk; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
16Mark Evans, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
17friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the family of Mark Evans as an expression of our 
20deepest sympathy.
