| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Roger W. Carlson of Deerfield, who passed |
| 4 | | away on August 1, 2017; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roger Carlson was born in Minnesota on May 27, |
| 6 | | 1928 and grew up in Edina; he served in the United States Army |
| 7 | | from 1946 to 1948 and attended the University of Minnesota; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Roger Carlson worked in advertising sales, most |
| 9 | | notably with Fortune, National Geographic, and Parade |
| 10 | | magazines; in 1979, he opened Bookman's Alley in a warehouse |
| 11 | | off Sherman Avenue in Evanston; he built the shop into a |
| 12 | | sprawling complex filled with books, antiques, and artwork; he |
| 13 | | closed the store in 2013 after more than 33 years in business; |
| 14 | | and

| 15 | | WHEREAS, Roger Carlson is survived by his wife, Deborah; |
| 16 | | his children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Carlson, Ann (Clifford) Miller, |
| 17 | | Leslie Carlson-Magee, and Susan and Gregory Carlson; his |
| 18 | | grandchildren, Kyle McAfee, Dillon (Ashley) McAfee, Lee |
| 19 | | (Andrew) Rizzo, Clinton, Kevin, and Jay Magee, Michael and |
| 20 | | Katherine Carlson, and Drew and Woody Miller; and his |
| 21 | | great-grandchildren, Zeyda, Frances, and Charlotte; therefore, |
