| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Maria Martha Perez Laubhan of Highland |
| 4 | | Park, who passed away on June 12, 2017; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Maria Laubhan was born in Mexico; at the age of |
| 6 | | 12, her family joined her father in the United States and |
| 7 | | settled in Chicago; she attended St. Francis Xavier School and |
| 8 | | graduated from Schurz High School in 1983, where she worked on |
| 9 | | the school newspaper and was instructed by then-editor of |
| 10 | | Crain's Chicago Business, Dan Miller; she earned a bachelor's |
| 11 | | degree in Latin American Studies from DePaul University in |
| 12 | | 1988, during which time she worked on the news desk at Time |
| 13 | | magazine's Chicago bureau; she earned a master's degree in |
| 14 | | government and international relations in 1990 from the |
| 15 | | University of Notre Dame, where she worked as a research |
| 16 | | assistant; and

| 17 | | WHEREAS, From 1991 until 1995, Maria Laubhan held several |
| 18 | | positions at the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, now known |
| 19 | | as Prospanica, including working as a Chicago-based field |
| 20 | | manager for its summer enrichment program for high school |
| 21 | | students and as an education programs consultant; she then |
| 22 | | worked for two years at Barat College in Lake Forest as its |
| 23 | | Director of Career Planning; in 1998, she joined the staff of |
