SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Steven Michael Mertel; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Steven Mertel was born to Stephen and Irene Mertel 
5on December 10, 1941; he served in the United States Army as a 
6military policeman from 1959 to 1963 and married Betty in 1970; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Steven Mertel spent the majority of his career in 
9the auto industry; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Steven Mertel had a passion for cars; his favorite 
11pastimes included fishing, boating, taking drives, traveling 
12to Florida, and spending summer days surrounded by family and 
13friends by the pool in his backyard which he called his "small 
14slice of paradise"; he was kind and generous; he loved his 
15family fiercely and if you were a friend, he considered you 
16family; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Steven Mertel was preceded in death by his 
18grandson, Jason Wallace; his siblings, Carole Zimney and Teddy 
19Mertel; his nephew, John Paul Kasko; and his parents, Steven 
20and Irene Mertel; and

1    WHEREAS, Steven Mertel is survived by his wife of 47 years, 
2Betty; his children, Cheryl (Joe) Umland, Amy (Patrick) 
3Finnerty, Steven (Kelly) Mertel, and Michael Mertel; his 
4grandchildren, Alex Wallace, Maggie and Patrick Finnerty, and 
5Grace, Anna, and Ryan Mertel; and his great-grandchildren, 
6Abel, Adrian, and Jenna Wallace; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
9Steven Michael Mertel, and extend our sincere condolences to 
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
11further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to  the family of  Steven Mertel as an expression of 
14our deepest sympathy.
