| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Steven Michael Mertel; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Steven Mertel was born to Stephen and Irene Mertel |
| 5 | | on December 10, 1941; he served in the United States Army as a |
| 6 | | military policeman from 1959 to 1963 and married Betty in 1970; |
| 7 | | and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Steven Mertel spent the majority of his career in |
| 9 | | the auto industry; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Steven Mertel had a passion for cars; his favorite |
| 11 | | pastimes included fishing, boating, taking drives, traveling |
| 12 | | to Florida, and spending summer days surrounded by family and |
| 13 | | friends by the pool in his backyard which he called his "small |
| 14 | | slice of paradise"; he was kind and generous; he loved his |
| 15 | | family fiercely and if you were a friend, he considered you |
| 16 | | family; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Steven Mertel was preceded in death by his |
| 18 | | grandson, Jason Wallace; his siblings, Carole Zimney and Teddy |
| 19 | | Mertel; his nephew, John Paul Kasko; and his parents, Steven |
| 20 | | and Irene Mertel; and
