SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Raymond Olbrich of Claremont, Minnesota, who passed away on July 20, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Olbrich was born in Harvard to Raymond and Elsie (Ottens) Olbrich on March 7, 1933; he attended South Dunham Grade School and Harvard High School; he married Celia Whitt in Harvard on September 6, 1952 and served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956; and

WHEREAS, John Olbrich and his wife lived in Kirkland, Washington for a short while before returning to Harvard in June of 1956, where they continued farming; they opened their home to several foster daughters and continued to foster girls from Illinois after they moved to Claremont in December of 1968; John was employed at Owatonna Manufacturing Company for many years and later at Triton High School; he retired in 2000; and

WHEREAS, John Olbrich was active in 4-H in Illinois and Minnesota; he served on the school board in Harvard and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Pure Milk Association; he enjoyed woodworking and visiting with family and friends; he was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Claremont; and

WHEREAS, John Olbrich was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Celia; his sister, Dorothy Kleckner; his sisters-in-law, Janis Olbrich and Marilyn Olbrich; and his brother-in-law, Jim Roach; and

WHEREAS, John Olbrich is survived by his children, David (Lori) Olbrich, Carrie (Steve) Laue, Allison (Craig) Ross, and Carol Liming; his grandchildren, Danielle (Tony) Bower, Michael Laue, Ryan (Breanna) Laue, Andrea (Chris) Franko, Margaret (Ryan Huddleston) Olbrich, John (Courtney) Liming, Brandon (Paige) Ross, and Samantha Liming; nine great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jake Olbrich and Bill Olbrich; his sister, Marjorie (Midge) Roach; and his extended family, including foster daughters, Donna (Randy) Hagen and their four daughters and six grandchildren, Janet (Larry) Hermanson and their two children, and Mary (Kevin) Anderson and their two children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Raymond Olbrich of Claremont, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Olbrich as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
