| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of George Samuelian of Waukegan, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on June 30, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, George Samuelian was born in Waukegan to Bedros | ||||||
| 6 | and Kouhar Samuelian on January 1, 1932, the first baby born in | ||||||
| 7 | Waukegan in 1932; he attended Andrew Cooke Grade School and | ||||||
| 8 | graduated from Waukegan Township High School in January of | ||||||
| 9 | 1949; he served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 | ||||||
| 10 | during the Korean War; he used the GI Bill to earn his | ||||||
| 11 | bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois | ||||||
| 12 | University; he earned his master's degree in administration | ||||||
| 13 | from Northern Illinois University; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, George Samuelian started his teaching career in | ||||||
| 15 | Waukegan School District #60 in 1960; in 1972, he became the | ||||||
| 16 | principal of North Elementary School; he retired in 1992 after | ||||||
| 17 | 32 years in the district; after retirement, he worked as a | ||||||
| 18 | substitute principal for many years; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, George Samuelian was a founding member of St. | ||||||
| 20 | George Armenian Apostolic Church in Waukegan, where he served | ||||||
| 21 | as the treasurer for 25 years; he enjoyed vacationing in | ||||||
| 22 | Florida with his friends and spending summers at Brentwood | ||||||

| 1 | Pool; he was an avid Chicago sports fan and was especially | ||||||
| 2 | excited to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, George Samuelian was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 5 | wife, Vivian (Merlo); his parents; his sisters, Rose (Ed) | ||||||
| 6 | LaMartin and Mary (John) Boyajian; and his sister-in-law, Anne | ||||||
| 7 | Samuelian; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, George Samuelian is survived by his sons, George | ||||||
| 9 | Mark Samuelian, John Samuel (Patty) Samuelian, and Edward Paul | ||||||
| 10 | (Renee) Samuelian; his grandchildren, Jack and Gina Samuelian; | ||||||
| 11 | his brother, Sam Samuelian; his brothers-in-law, Frank (Pat) | ||||||
| 12 | Merlo and Joe (Linda) Merlo; his sisters-in-law, Margaret | ||||||
| 13 | (Bill) Creamer and Mary (Peyton) Metzel; many nieces and | ||||||
| 14 | nephews; and a special caregiver that was with the family for | ||||||
| 15 | over 20 years, Donna Flis; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | George Samuelian, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the family of George Samuelian as an expression of | ||||||
