| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Harold L. Jensen M.D. of Frankfort, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 22, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was born in Pillager, Minnesota; he |
| 6 | | served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1948, achieving |
| 7 | | the rank of second lieutenant; his passion for medicine began |
| 8 | | one night while a child living at a boarding house, holding a |
| 9 | | mason jar of leeches to assist a physician making a house call |
| 10 | | for a patient with high blood pressure; he earned his |
| 11 | | undergraduate degree in clinical psychology from the |
| 12 | | University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign and his medical |
| 13 | | degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen cared for countless south suburban |
| 15 | | patients since completing his residency in internal medicine at |
| 16 | | Illinois Central Hospital in 1957; he was a longtime medical |
| 17 | | staff member at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he |
| 18 | | also served as the hospital's vice president of medical |
| 19 | | affairs, as chair of the Department of Medicine, and as medical |
| 20 | | staff president; he was the voice of the medical staff of Hazel |
| 21 | | Crest's South Suburban Hospital, now part of the Advocate |
| 22 | | system; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In 1991, Dr. Jensen was elected ISMIE Mutual |
| 2 | | Insurance Company's third chairman; he steered the company |
| 3 | | through difficult market conditions in the 1990s and early |
| 4 | | 2000s, launched the industry-leading Managing Risk program in |
| 5 | | 2004, and fostered ISMIE's current national expansion; he |
| 6 | | pioneered innovative risk management education to improve |
| 7 | | patient safety and protect physicians from medical liability; |
| 8 | | he advocated tirelessly for legal fairness and balance in |
| 9 | | Illinois' courtrooms; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was a member and leader of the Illinois |
| 11 | | State Medical Society; he served as Illinois State Medical |
| 12 | | Society chairman from 1988 to 1990; prior to that, he was |
| 13 | | president of the Chicago Medical Society from 1985 from 1986; |
| 14 | | and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was a voracious reader, enjoyed golf, |
| 16 | | loved animals, and was an expert woodcrafter; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen is survived by his wife, Sandra; his |
| 18 | | children, Eric Jensen (Elizabeth), Kris Ann Bahl (Ken), and |
| 19 | | Beth Susan Montblanc (Patrick); six grandchildren; and one |
| 20 | | great-grandchild; therefore, be it
