| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Roy L. Hertel of Hillsboro, who passed |
| 4 | | away on May 25, 2017; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was born in Du Quoin to Leonard "Jake" |
| 6 | | and Nola Burnetta (Annear) Hertel on February 7, 1949; he |
| 7 | | graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967; he earned his |
| 8 | | bachelor's degree in history and political science from |
| 9 | | Greenville College and then completed his postgraduate studies |
| 10 | | at Georgetown University and Southern Illinois University in |
| 11 | | Edwardsville; he married Nanci Mauton at the Christian Church |
| 12 | | Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro on December 27, 1980; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel assisted with the services at Bass |
| 14 | | Funeral Home in Hillsboro and was a school teacher in Coffeen; |
| 15 | | he served as the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk and as a |
| 16 | | regional administrator with the Department of Montgomery |
| 17 | | County Health and Human Services; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was a member of the Christian Church |
| 19 | | Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro; he was a 45-year member of |
| 20 | | the Lions Club, where he had held all offices and was district |
| 21 | | lieutenant governor and district governor in 1991 and 1992; he |
| 22 | | was the president of the Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 51
