SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of A. Malcolm Layson of Waukegan, who passed away on May 15, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was born on the family farm in Waterloo, Indiana to Royal and Elma on September 10, 1920; he served in the United States Navy as a diesel mechanic in the Ellice Islands in the Pacific during World War II and painted many pictures of the war and island life; upon his return from the war, he attended art school in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson worked for a short time as an artist for Abbott Labs; he formed Layson Productions Unlimited in Waukegan; he also taught art at the College of Lake County and exhibited his work in many venues, including the Art Fair on the Square in Lake Forest; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was a long-time member of the Lake County Art League and the Five to Show exhibition group; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson enjoyed staying at the cabin he built in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he painted many beautiful scenes and fished; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Francis; his first wife, Joy Layson; and his son, Daniel; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his stepson, Jeffery Miltimore; his stepdaughters, Leslie Hartman and Susan Berdahl; his daughters, Jill Morris and Robin Coban; his sister-in-law, Elise Layson; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of A. Malcolm Layson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Malcolm Layson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
