SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger Bernard Hilton Sr., who passed away on April 30, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Roger Hilton was born to Burnis Hylton and Millie Belle Driscoll on December 22, 1934 and married Shirley Ann Holton on September 26, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Roger Hilton was active in numerous Masonic houses within Lake County; he joined Rufus Mitchell Lodge #107 PHA in 1976, in which he held several positions enroute to become the Worshipful Master and later a Past Master of the lodge; he joined Shawall Temple #165 Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.) in 1976 and was an Honorary Past Potentate and a Honorary Past Imperial Potentate; he was a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry PHA, North Shore Consistory #91 where he received the 33rd Grand Inspector General degree (the highest degree that one can attain as a Prince Hall Mason); he was also a Past Worthy Patron of Emblem Chapter 140 Order of Eastern Stars PHA, and Past Master Hilton; he was known throughout the various houses and held many different positions which exemplified his character as mason; and

WHEREAS, Roger Hilton was preceded in death by loving wife, Shirley; his parents; his daughter, Bernadine Hilton; his grandson, William Usher; his brother, Warren Hylton; his sister, Beverly Smith; and his devoted friend, Betty Carol Foxie-McKenzie; and

WHEREAS, Roger Hilton is survived by his children, Deborah (Willie) Hilton-Davis, Gail Hilton, and Roger Bernard (Reneaka) Hilton Jr.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Viola Reese-Johnson, Barbara Dickens, and Gayle Hunter; and his devoted friends, Sherman McKenzie, Mary James, Curtis Morris Sr., and Junior and Faye White; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roger Bernard Hilton Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Hilton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
