| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dave Shaul of Champaign at the age of 75; |
| 4 | | and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dave Shaul attended Champaign public schools and |
| 6 | | was a winner of Illinois State High School Association speech |
| 7 | | competitions; he graduated from the University of Illinois in |
| 8 | | 1963; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dave Shaul worked for 37 years as a television |
| 10 | | newsman at WCIA in Champaign, beginning in 1962; he was |
| 11 | | instrumental in WCIA opening bureaus in Springfield and |
| 12 | | Decatur; he began, and ended, his career with WDWS in |
| 13 | | Champaign; he oversaw the transition from film to videotape to |
| 14 | | live and satellite feeds; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Dave Shaul did play-by-play for Illinois |
| 16 | | basketball games; he promoted the Tom Jones Challenger League, |
| 17 | | sponsored by the Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis Club, and announced |
| 18 | | many of the games at AMBUCS Park in northeast Urbana; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Dave Shaul was honored with the Associated Press |
| 20 | | Mark Twain Lifetime Achievement Award; he was inducted into the |
| 21 | | Eastern Illinois University Hall of Fame and designated a |
