SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Joseph Metzger of Johnsburg, who passed 
4away on April 24, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was born in Pomaz, Hungary to 
6Stefan Metzger and Rosa Weiszhar on January 24, 1928; his bride 
7to be, Elizabeth Harrer, immigrated to the United States from 
8Germany in 1950 and Joseph did so the following year; he 
9married Elizabeth at St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry on 
10January 26, 1952; he rebuilt a summer cottage in Johnsburg into 
11their home, in which they resided for almost 60 years; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger first worked as a bricklayer and 
13plasterer for Ted Pitzen for many years; he was later employed 
14by Great Lakes Naval Base as a plasterer until his retirement; 
15and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was a Sunnyside Village Trustee and 
17was active at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg; he had 
18many hobbies as a younger man, including stamp collecting, 
19calligraphy, leather work, cartooning, and woodworking; in his 
20later years, his greatest interest and joy came from genealogy 
21and his family; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was preceded in death by his wife, 
2Elizabeth, and his brother-in-law, Lorenz Bayer; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger is survived by his children, John 
4(Candace) Metzger, Paul (Donna) Metzger, and Maria (Roger) 
5Zawacki; his  grandchildren, Emily and Erich Zawacki, Matthew 
6and Margaret Metzger, and Mallory (Matthew) Boyd; and his 
7sister, Theresia Bayer and her extended family; therefore, be 
8it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
11Joseph Metzger, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
13further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to  the family of  Joseph Metzger as an expression of 
16our deepest sympathy.
