SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jo Ann Marie Robinson of Bolingbrook, who passed away in April of 2017; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Robinson was born in Bolingbrook on June 27, 1956; she graduated from DuSable High School; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Robinson served in prison ministry from 1993 to 1998; she hosted an award-winning cable show, "From the Heart Show"; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Robinson founded the H.E.A.R.T. Organization Community Service Program in 1999 and served as its director; participants in the program are affectionately known throughout her community as the "Spiritual Boot Camp Soldiers"; the program has assisted thousands of children, helping them avoid prosecution and convictions; it has been featured in the Joliet Herald, the Bolingbrook Sun, and The Patch Newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Robinson was awarded the "John F. Whiteside" lifetime achievement award from the Will County Sheriff's Department, the "National Chiefs of Police Citation", and the "Seekers of Justice Award" from the Black Bar Association in 2012; she was voted "Citizen of the Year" by Mayor Roger Claar, and honored by the American Association of University Women as the "Distinguished Woman the Year"; in 2005 and 2006, she received the AT&T "Beyond the Call" award; she was awarded "Female Citizen of the Year" by DuPage Township, and was honored by the DuPage AME Church for her work with at-risk youth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jo Ann Marie Robinson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jo Ann Robinson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
