SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Many students in all levels of public schools benefit from the opportunity to participate in activities involving nature and the environment; and

WHEREAS, Activities which better our communities and the areas in which we live are an integral part of the education of our young people; and

WHEREAS, It is always a special benefit when communities can directly gain from the efforts of public school programs; and

WHEREAS, Recently students from Pontiac Township High School's Science and Life Skills classes, TriPoint High School's National Honor Society and Science classes, Prairie Central's Grade School and Life Skills classes, Prairie Central High School Life Skills class, and Heartland Community College Science classes have collaborated on The Bluebird Project which will benefit all of their communities; and

WHEREAS, These students have rallied their communities and have helped to install hundreds of bluebird houses throughout the area with the goal of attracting the eastern bluebird back to its native habitat; and

WHEREAS, A community event, the second annual Bluebird Festival, is to be held in honor of this native bird and will feature decorations of artwork created by primary school students; and

WHEREAS, The students and teachers should be recognized for their efforts and their team spirit toward this notable project; and

WHEREAS, With this project being a collaboration of students, schools, and communities the teamwork and cooperation demonstrated is noteworthy, exciting, and significant in multiple forms; and

WHEREAS, The growth of our area, the beauty of our environment, the strength of our communities, and the character of our youth are all enhanced by the efforts and spirit of these students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 4, 2017 as "Bluebird Project Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge other schools in the State of Illinois to follow these schools in doing similar efforts to strengthen and unify communities, beautify the environment, and build camaraderie across the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to Pontiac Township High School, TriPoint High School, Prairie Central Grade School, Prairie Central High School, and Heartland Community College.
