SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Edward Cook, CAE, who passed away on February 9, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Robert Cook was born in Chicago to Norman and Mabel Cook in 1925; he graduated from Wheaton College and married Dorothy Jean Prescott in June 1949; they settled in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Robert Cook served as the Executive Vice-President of the Illinois Association of Realtors from 1956 to 1984; in 1973, he was the organization's lobbyist and was known as the "Speaker of the Illinois Third House"; in 1985, he co-founded Cook-Witter, Inc.; he was a founding member of the Illinois Society of Association Executives and actively participated in the American Society of Association Executives, where he earned his Certified Association Executive designation and was awarded the Key Person Award; he served on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Committee of 100"; and

WHEREAS, Robert Cook was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church, serving on the board of multiple ministries; after retirement, he and Jean moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be close to family; and

WHEREAS, Robert Cook was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Cook Harrison, and his grandson, Jason Mosby; and

WHEREAS, Robert Cook is survived by his wife, Jean; his son, Robin; his daughters, Cindy Nelsen, and Terri Mosby; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert Edward Cook, CAE, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Cook as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
