SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas E. Abel of Rock Island, who passed away on March 5, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Abel was born in Davenport to Charles and Roberta Terry Abel on January 9, 1935; he received his education in Mooseheart; he was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 1959, and was in the Reserve until 1974; he married Marilyn Vick on February 9, 1972; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Abel was a machine tool operator at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1990; he was a member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Pius X Catholic Church; he was a volunteer at UPH-Trinity Hospital and he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Abel was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Abel is survived by his wife, Marilyn Abel; his children, Cheryl Weybright, Patricia (Ken) Swank, and Timothy Vick; his grandchildren, Jessica (Paul) Stubbs, Angela Swank, Thomas (Lisa) Weybright, Michael (Brieana) Weybright, Amber Vick, Ashley Vick, and Timothy J. Vick; and great-grandchildren, Cale and Ellison Stubbs, Addison and Kellan Weybright, Bentley and Avery Vick, and Audrey Weybright; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas E. Abel, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Abel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
