| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Roger J. King of Harvard, who passed away |
| 4 | | on February 20, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roger King was born in Harvard to Thomas J. and |
| 6 | | Mary (Gleason) King Sr. on March 18, 1928; he attended the King |
| 7 | | School and graduated from Harvard High School; he joined the |
| 8 | | United States Army on November 9, 1950 and began working with |
| 9 | | the Transportation Railway Operating Battalion as a Private |
| 10 | | First Class; he served for two years during the Korean War; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Roger King worked as a conductor for Metra until |
| 12 | | his retirement in 1989; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Roger King enjoyed golfing and square dancing; he |
| 14 | | was an avid reader of various newspapers and enjoyed watching |
| 15 | | the Chicago Cubs; he was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic |
| 16 | | Church, the VFW, and the Harvard Moose Lodge; he was active in |
| 17 | | all veteran activities and was chosen to take part in the Honor |
| 18 | | Flight to Washington, D.C.; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Roger King was preceded in death by his parents |
| 20 | | and his siblings, Thomas J. (Nitchie) King, Roseanne (Walter) |
| 21 | | Schultz, Frank King, and Irene (John) Brennan; and
|
