SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Roger J. King of Harvard, who passed away 
4on February 20, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger King was born in Harvard to Thomas J. and 
6Mary (Gleason) King Sr. on March 18, 1928; he attended the King 
7School and graduated from Harvard High School; he joined the 
8United States Army on November 9, 1950 and began working with 
9the Transportation Railway Operating Battalion as a Private 
10First Class; he served for two years during the Korean War; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Roger King worked as a conductor for Metra until 
12his retirement in 1989; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Roger King enjoyed golfing and square dancing; he 
14was an avid reader of various newspapers and enjoyed watching 
15the Chicago Cubs; he was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic 
16Church, the VFW, and the Harvard Moose Lodge; he was active in 
17all veteran activities and was chosen to take part in the Honor 
18Flight to Washington, D.C.; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Roger King was preceded in death by his parents 
20and  his siblings, Thomas J. (Nitchie) King, Roseanne (Walter) 
21Schultz, Frank King, and Irene (John) Brennan; and

1    WHEREAS, Roger King is survived by his sister-in-law, 
2Eileen King; numerous nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and 
3nephews; and many friends; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
6Roger J. King, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to  the family of  Roger King as an expression of our 
11deepest sympathy.
